Savoury Pan-fried Sandwich |
I am sure you have eaten a variety of sandwiches such as hams and eggs, tuna, chicken salad, and turkey but have you tried savoury sandwich? If you have not, you should give it a try. It gives a different perspective of sandwiches. The flavoursome of the savoury sandwich greatly depends on the filling.
I use mixture of greens, meats, eggs and onions for the filling. You can use meats and vegetables of your choice. It is also a great way to make use of your leftover meat. It is versatile wholesome meal for you and it is easy to prepare. You can have it for breakfast, lunch or even dinner. It is also convenient to pack and go if you have prepared extra portion.

Ingredients

Savoury Fillings

- 15 slices wholemeal bread
- 1 big onion - finely diced
- 1 big potato - finely diced
- 1 small carrot - finely diced
- 1 stalk celery - finely diced
- 10 french bean - finely diced
- 150gm minced meat
- 2 cups of water for boiling potatoes
- Oil for frying
- 1 tablespoon oats for thickening
- Salt + pepper to taste
Ingredients for pan frying
- 3 eggs
- some margarine
Method
- Boil the chopped potatoes in the water till soft and then keep aside.
- Fry the onions in oil till soft.
- Add in the minced meat and fry for a minutes and add in some pepper.
- Add in the carrots, french beans, celery and then the potatoes together with the water in which it is boiled.
- Add salt to taste and finally add in the oat. Dish out.
- Cool the fillings slightly and add a tablespoon onto each of the bread and fold into half.
- Repeat for the rest of the bread.
- Crack the eggs on to the bowl and whisk them together.
- Dip each folded bread into the whisked eggs
- Pan fry it with some margarine until golden brown.
